The Office of Handicapped Concerns (OHC) is a state agency which provides advocacy and information and referral on
disability issues to all Oklahomans. It serves as a liaison between the State Legislature and Oklahoma citizens in
developing policies and services for people with disabilities. The agency provides training on disability issues
including laws which affect individuals with disability, disability etiquette, and resources available to
individuals who are in need.
The Office of Handicapped Concerns has been designated by the Governor to administer the Client Assistance Program
(CAP). CAP is mandated to assure that all Oklahomans receiving vocational rehabilitation services through the
Department of Rehabilitative Services receive such services according to policy.
The agency quarterly newsletter, Will’s Corner, Oklahoma, covers a variety of issues of interest to people with
disabilities and their families and friends. OHC has authored several state publications including The Disability
Etiquette Handbook, The Road to Employment, and Housing for People with Disabilities in Oklahoma. This latter
publication was just printed for the first time in the summer of 2004. It provides information on different types
of housing options available to people with disabilities as well as programs which may help individuals purchase or
rent a home. Finally, information is provided on federal laws which govern housing issues.
